Unique A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Up/Down "Hampton Court Edition" to Be Sold at Phillips Auction

A. Lange & Söhne is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Datograph collection with a remarkable new release—the Datograph Up/Down "Hampton Court Edition." This special model, crafted to mark the milestone, will be sold at a charity auction hosted by Phillips in collaboration with Bacs & Russo in Geneva on November 9, with all proceeds going to The Prince's Trust, a British charity that supports disadvantaged youth.

The Datograph collection, introduced in 1999, has long been a benchmark in the realm of mechanical chronographs, combining sophisticated technical innovation with timeless elegance. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, A. Lange & Söhne has introduced several new models, including the Datograph Handwerkskunst, and now, the Datograph Up/Down "Hampton Court Edition," named after the prestigious Hampton Court Concours of Elegance, an event showcasing classic cars where A. Lange & Söhne is a title sponsor.

The "Hampton Court Edition" features a white gold case paired with a matching bracelet, complemented by a grey dial with contrasting black subdials. A bold red central seconds hand adds a sporty touch, making it one of the most striking models in the Datograph lineup. Notably, the watch also features a hinged caseback with a special engraving commemorating the Hampton Court event—something that is typically found only in A. Lange & Söhne’s unique or limited-edition pieces. The caseback opens to reveal the manually wound calibre L951.6, a movement known for its high level of craftsmanship, featuring 451 components and a power reserve of 60 hours.

The design of the dial, while seemingly simple, reveals a sophisticated complexity. The layout of the subdials and the iconic Big Date forms an equilateral triangle, ensuring perfect symmetry and optimal readability. The peripheral tachymeter scale serves as a subtle nod to the historical relationship between timekeeping and motorsports.

This one-of-a-kind watch will be auctioned on November 9, with all proceeds, including the auction house’s premium, being donated to The Prince's Trust. The auction provides a unique opportunity to combine the artistry of watchmaking with a significant social cause, further enhancing the importance of this exclusive timepiece. The Prince's Trust, founded by King Charles III, aims to help young people develop the skills they need to secure employment and build a promising future.

A. Lange & Söhne's commitment to excellence in watchmaking is showcased once again with this exceptional creation, merging intricate technical achievement with a dedication to philanthropy. The Datograph Up/Down "Hampton Court Edition" stands not only as a celebration of horological artistry but also as a testament to the impact watchmaking can have in supporting charitable endeavours.
