TAG Heuer Monaco Speed 12 Introduces a New Take on the Spin Time Display

Generate AI summary

To coincide with the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Grand Prix de Monaco 2026, TAG Heuer has unveiled an unusual new addition to its Monaco collection. The new TAG Heuer Monaco Speed 12 combines the iconic square Monaco case with a movement developed by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton and inspired by the patented Spin Time display concept.

A Titanium Monaco Case Framed by Sapphire

The Monaco Speed 12 retains the collection's instantly recognisable square case design. Measuring 40mm across, the case is crafted from Grade 5 titanium and features a combination of brushed and polished surfaces.

Sapphire crystal plays a major role in the overall design. The watch is equipped with a sapphire bezel, a domed sapphire crystal over the dial and a sapphire caseback. Together, these sapphire elements create a display-like effect that showcases the suspended movement.

Water resistance is rated at 30 metres.

A Dial Inspired by Twelve-Cylinder Engines

The automotive influence is immediately apparent on the dial. The vertically grooved central section resembles an engine cover, while the skeletonised minute hand with its red tip recalls the instruments found in racing cars.

Surrounding the minute track is the watch's defining feature: twelve rotating titanium pistons engraved with black lacquer-filled Arabic numerals. These elements are used to display the hours.

The display is based on a reinterpretation of the Spin Time mechanism. At the beginning of each hour, the active piston returns to its resting position while the next piston rotates by 90 degrees to reveal the current hour. The sequence is intended to mirror the operating cycle of a twelve-cylinder engine. When the central minute hand completes one revolution, the active piston returns to its fixed position and the next piston rotates to indicate the current hour.

TH84-00 Movement by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton

Powering the watch is the automatic calibre TH84-00, developed and manufactured by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.

The movement is derived from the original Spin Time concept created by master watchmakers Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini. TAG Heuer's watchmakers reinterpreted the concept in a more contemporary and technical form for the Monaco Speed 12.

Operating at a frequency of 4Hz, the movement delivers a power reserve of approximately 45 hours.

Limited Production of 50 Pieces

The watch is paired with a black rubber strap featuring a textile-style finish and contrasting red stitching. It is secured by a titanium folding clasp fitted with twin safety pushers.

Production of the TAG Heuer Monaco Speed 12 will be limited to 50 individually numbered examples. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in December 2026.

The watch is priced at approximately CHF 70,000, €77,000 or $87,000.
