Panerai Luminor GMT Ceramica 40mm PAM01460

A landmark introduction as Panerai debuts its first 40 millimetre ceramic Luminor

Panerai’s identity has long been shaped by large and imposing cases, particularly within the Luminor collection, where sizes of 44 and 47 millimetres have traditionally dominated. In recent years, however, the manufacture has expanded its offering with more compact formats. The Luminor Quaranta models of 2023 and the subsequent Quaranta BiTempo demonstrated that Panerai’s design language could be translated successfully into a smaller 40 millimetre architecture. This autumn the brand introduces its first ceramic Luminor in this size, marking a significant evolution within the contemporary collection.

A ceramic case in a new proportion

The Luminor GMT Ceramica 40mm PAM01460 is built around a sandblasted black ceramic case. The signature crown protection bridge is also crafted from ceramic, but features a combination of polished and satin finished surfaces that create a gentle contrast with the matte mid case. The screw down caseback is manufactured from grade 5 titanium and fitted with a tinted sapphire insert. The watch offers water resistance to 300 metres, maintaining the functional ethos of the Luminor line.

A dial shaped by modern Luminor codes

The polished dial follows the format that has defined contemporary Luminor design. Numerals and hour markers are filled with Super LumiNova X2, providing strong low light visibility. A small seconds display sits at nine o’clock, balanced by a date indication at three. The additional central hand with a white triangular tip tracks a second time zone set to home time, allowing the watch to function as a practical GMT.

The P.900 based GMT movement

Powering the watch is the P.900 GMT (12H), a compact automatic calibre produced within the Richemont movement facility in Valfleurier. The same movement is found in the Luminor Quaranta BiTempo as well as in the 44 millimetre Submersible GMT Navy SEALs.

Key specifications include a bidirectional winding system, a hacking seconds mechanism for precise setting, a single barrel, a frequency of 28800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of three days. Its dimensions make it well suited to Panerai’s push toward slimmer and more versatile case formats.

Straps and quick change system

The watch is delivered on a black calfskin strap stitched with white thread and equipped with a trapezoidal titanium buckle finished with black DLC. A black rubber strap is also included, offering a practical option for use in salt water. Both straps and their buckles employ the PAM Click Release system, allowing rapid changes without the need for tools.

Availability and price

The Luminor GMT Ceramica 40mm PAM01460 will join the permanent Panerai collection and will be available from October 2025 through Panerai boutiques and authorised retailers. The model is expected to retail for approximately 15300 euros or 15800 US dollars.

The introduction of the PAM01460 demonstrates how Panerai continues to refine its design language for contemporary wearers, combining the robustness of ceramic with the versatility of the compact 40 millimetre format while preserving the essential character of the Luminor line.
