IWC Marks 140 Years of Mercedes-Benz With Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar ProSet
IWC has introduced a new Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar ProSet to mark the 140th anniversary of Mercedes-Benz, a long-standing partner of the watchmaker.
The limited-edition model combines a black and gold colour scheme with IWC's ProSet perpetual calendar system. Production is restricted to 140 pieces, reflecting the anniversary being celebrated.
At 42.9 mm in diameter and 14.3 mm thick, the watch is more compact than many models traditionally associated with the Big Pilot collection, while retaining characteristic elements such as a narrow polished bezel and distinctive diamond-shaped crown.

A 42.9mm Big Pilot With Black and Gold Detailing
The stainless-steel case measures 42.9 mm across and 14.3 mm thick. Sapphire crystal is used on both the front and caseback, while water resistance is rated to 100 metres.
The black dial is paired with applied gold markers and gold-plated hands. Recessed subdials display the calendar indications while retaining the recognisable visual character of the Big Pilot collection.
Super-LumiNova is applied to the hands and markers to improve legibility in low-light conditions.
The black and gold combination gives the anniversary edition a distinctive appearance while retaining familiar elements of the Big Pilot design.
ProSet Perpetual Calendar Can Be Adjusted in Both Directions
Inside the watch is IWC's calibre 82655, equipped with the ProSet perpetual calendar system.
The calendar mechanism uses a multi-level programme wheel to coordinate its indications. The system consists of approximately 20 components, including a dedicated leap-year wheel with movable feelers that account for February's varying length.
The calendar can be adjusted both forwards and backwards using the crown. The perpetual calendar also accounts for months of different lengths as well as leap years.
This bidirectional adjustment system is one of the defining features of the ProSet calendar used in the new anniversary model.
Moon Phase Accuracy Reaches 1,040 Years
The moon phase display shows the phases of the Moon as viewed from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
According to the stated specification, the indication requires a correction of just one day after 1,040 years of operation.
The calendar indications and moon phase display are arranged within recessed subdials, allowing the perpetual calendar functions to be integrated into the 42.9 mm case.
Calibre 82655 Uses IWC's Pellaton Winding System
The automatic calibre 82655 uses IWC's Pellaton winding system and provides a power reserve of approximately 40 hours.
The Pellaton winding system incorporates ceramic components. The movement also features a silicon balance spring, while components of the escapement are made from nickel and phosphorus.
A sapphire crystal caseback provides a view of the movement.
Limited to 140 Pieces
The IWC Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar ProSet 140 Years Mercedes-Benz is fitted with a black rubber strap.
The strap is equipped with IWC's EasX-CHANGE system for quick replacement.
Production is limited to 140 pieces, directly reflecting Mercedes-Benz's 140th anniversary. The watch is priced at approximately €40,900.
