Barrington’s Monthly Watch Roundup: March 2026

March 2026 has been a month of significant hardware debuts, characterised by a move toward refined sizing, proprietary mechanical modules, and a notable pivot away from "hype" aesthetics in favour of technical functionality. From the major Swiss houses to the most niche Japanese ateliers, the releases this month signal a mature period of horological design where the focus is on wearable complexity and ergonomic refinement.

Here are the most notable watch releases from across the industry this month.

1. The Redefined Diver: Longines HydroConquest (3rd Generation)

Longines has officially launched the third generation of its core HydroConquest dive line. The redesign marks a significant departure from the previous generation's bold aesthetic, moving toward a cleaner "gentleman’s diver" look that takes cues from the HydroConquest GMT released in 2023.

The most striking change is the removal of the oversized "12", "6", and "9" Arabic numerals, replaced by circular and baton indices for a more balanced dial. The collection is now split into 39mm and 42mm variants, with both sizes featuring a reduced thickness of 11.7mm—approximately 0.5mm thinner than their predecessors.

Technical Specifications:

  • Case: 316L Stainless Steel; 39mm or 42mm; 11.7mm thick.

  • Movement: Calibre L888.5 (ETA-base); 72-hour power reserve; 25,200 vph.

  • Key Features: Silicon balance spring for magnetic resistance; 300m water resistance; unidirectional ceramic bezel.

  • Bracelet: Updated H-link or a new Milanese mesh featuring removable links for precise sizing.

  • Price: CHF 1,850 (~£1,650) on H-link; CHF 1,950 (~£1,750) on mesh.

2. Kinetic Artistry: Ōtsuka Lōtec No. 8

Japanese independent watchmaker Jiro Katayama has debuted the No. 8, a rectangular timepiece inspired by the analogue mixing consoles of Abbey Road Studios. This model follows the brand's tradition of industrial, gauge-like displays while introducing more refined case finishing.

The No. 8 utilizes a jumping hour aperture and a retrograde minute display designed to resemble a fader on a recording console. A partially hidden 90-second disc rotates at the top of the dial, adding kinetic interest.

Technical Specifications:

  • Case: 316L Stainless Steel; 47.8mm (lug-to-lug) x 31mm; 10.8mm thick.

  • Movement: Modified Miyota 90S5 with an in-house 62-part module for complications.

  • Functions: Jumping hour; retrograde "Minute Fader"; seconds disc.

  • Strap: 24mm rubber strap—a first for the brand.

  • Availability: Lottery-based sales starting March 23; priced at ¥990,000 (~£5,150).

3. The 24-Hour Narrative: Beda’a Angles Guichets

Qatari-based Beda’a has expanded its Angles collection with the "Guichets," a dual-aperture display that replaces traditional hands with a poetic 24-hour cycle. The watch is housed in the brand's signature 37mm octagonal case, which maintains an ultra-slim 6.3mm profile.

The upper aperture features a Sun and Moon that travel across a scale to indicate day and night over a 24-hour period, while the lower aperture shows the minutes on a rotating disc.

Technical Specifications:

  • Movement: Modified Peseux 7001 (manual-wind); gear train reworked to run at half-speed for the 24-hour rotation.

  • Dimensions: 37mm diameter; 6.3mm thickness.

  • Dial: Embossed metallic cover with vertical bar detailing; lacquered discs.

  • Price: CHF 1,800 (~£1,600) for both stainless steel and gold-plated versions.

4. Ultra-Thin Engineering: Gerald Charles Masterlink Perpetual Calendar

Ahead of its full unveiling in Geneva, Gerald Charles has released details on its most complex model since the brand's relaunch: the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar. The watch features the brand's first integrated bracelet and a new asymmetrical in-house calibre.

Technical Specifications:

  • Case: Grade 5 Titanium; 40mm x 40mm; 10mm thickness.

  • Movement: Calibre GCA11000; ultra-thin (4.63mm); 306 components; 50-hour reserve.

  • Functions: Day, date, month, leap year, and 135-tooth moonphase (accurate for 122 years).

  • Weight: 97 grams including the 151-part integrated titanium bracelet.

5. Technical Microbrands: Ardra Labs and Trematic

The microbrand segment has contributed two standout technical releases this month, focusing on materials and functional GMT solutions.

  • Ardra Labs Delta Type: A British release featuring the patented "PAN-GMT" complication. Using a three-vertex minute hand and a colour-coded bezel, it can simultaneously track two time zones, specifically solving for the 30 and 45-minute offsets used in countries like India and Nepal. (Price: $2,450 / ~£1,950).

  • Trematic T-Five Beigua Maris: A 39mm 1960s-inflected diver crafted entirely in Grade 5 titanium. It features a La Joux-Perret G101 movement with a 68-hour power reserve and a matte ceramic bezel. (Price: £1,150).

Notable Auction Result: The Biver "Pietersite"

The Phillips Hong Kong Sessions online auction (March 18–25) saw several modern independent pieces achieve exceptional results. The top lot was a Biver Automatique Atelier Series featuring a Pietersite dial, which sold for HK$1,079,500 (~£110,000), doubling its low estimate. Other significant sales included a Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5726/1A for HK$889,000 and an A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret Tourbillon for HK$762,000.

Looking Ahead: Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026 (April 14–20)

The industry is now pivoting toward Geneva for Watches and Wonders. Confirmed highlights include:

  • The Return of Audemars Piguet: Their first appearance at a major trade show since 2019.

  • New Exhibitors: 11 brands join the main fair, including Sinn Spezialuhren, Credor, Corum, and Behrens.

  • Product Embargoes: Novelties from Rolex, Patek Philippe, and the Richemont group are scheduled for reveal at 00:01 AM on April 14.
