Omega × Swatch Launch MoonSwatch Mission To The Moon 1969 With Real Gold
Omega and Swatch have introduced one of the most unusual MoonSwatch releases to date. The new Speedmaster MoonSwatch Mission To The Moon 1969 celebrates the Apollo 11 mission with genuine Moonshine Gold and a production run limited to just 1,969 pieces.
The watch was announced on 16 July 2026 at 09:32 EDT, matching the time that the Saturn V rocket carrying Apollo 11 lifted off on 16 July 1969. The mission ran from 16 to 24 July and led to Neil Armstrong becoming the first person to walk on the Moon.
Along with its Apollo 11 connection and limited production, the watch stands out for its use of genuine Moonshine Gold made from spare Omega components.

Each MoonSwatch Contains 11 Grams of Moonshine Gold
The Mission To The Moon 1969 combines a black Bioceramic case with prominent gold elements. The Moonshine Gold dial, hands, crown and chronograph pushers contrast with the black case, while gold-coloured details on the bezel and strap complete the design.
Each of the 1,969 watches uses 11 grams of genuine Moonshine Gold. For the project, spare Omega components were melted down at the brand's foundry to create the material used in the watch.
The combination of black Bioceramic and Moonshine Gold gives this edition a distinctive appearance within the wider MoonSwatch collection.
The €600 Price Has a Connection to Gold in 1969
The pricing concept also references the historical value of gold in 1969, the year of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.
At the time, 11 grams of gold was worth CHF 48, equivalent to approximately US$11. The Mission To The Moon 1969 is priced at €600.
This adds another 1969 reference to a watch already closely connected with the Apollo 11 mission through its name, release timing and limited production number.
1.2 Million Applications for Just 1,969 Watches
Demand for the Mission To The Moon 1969 has dramatically exceeded the number of watches available. Around 1.2 million applications were submitted for just 1,969 pieces.
The application process also included a mandatory 32-question quiz. Successful applicants receive the opportunity to purchase one of the watches for €600.
With approximately 1.2 million applicants competing for fewer than 2,000 pieces, only a tiny proportion will have the opportunity to buy the limited-edition MoonSwatch.
Apollo 11 Is at the Heart of the New MoonSwatch
The Apollo 11 mission provides the historical foundation for the Mission To The Moon 1969.
Apollo 11 launched on 16 July 1969 and returned to Earth on 24 July. The mission resulted in Neil Armstrong becoming the first person to walk on the Moon.
Omega and Swatch incorporated several references to 1969 into the new release. The watch was announced at the same time of day that the Saturn V launched 57 years earlier, while production is limited to 1,969 pieces. Each example also incorporates 11 grams of Moonshine Gold created from spare Omega components.
With genuine Moonshine Gold, a €600 retail price and around 1.2 million applications for only 1,969 pieces, the Mission To The Moon 1969 has become one of the most notable MoonSwatch releases of 2026.
