Jacob & Co. God of Time: The World’s Fastest Tourbillon as Mechanical Sculpture

Jacob & Co. has unveiled the God of Time, a striking mechanical statement built around the fastest rotating tourbillon cage ever produced. The cage completes a full rotation every four seconds, establishing a new world record and surpassing the previous benchmark by a full second, which had been set by the Franck Muller Thunderbolt.

From anniversary concept to finished timepiece

While officially presented as a new release, the God of Time has been in development for several years. The watch first appeared publicly in June 2025, when it was revealed by Jacob Arabo in connection with his 60th birthday. At the time, it was noted that the project had required four years of development, reflecting both its mechanical ambition and its sculptural complexity.

The watch is housed in a substantial 44.5 mm case crafted from 18 carat rose gold. Measuring 18.25 mm in thickness, the case features elaborate decorative detailing around its perimeter, clearly inspired by the fluting and proportions of Ionic columns found in classical architecture. The considerable depth of the case makes this reference immediately recognisable.

Dial architecture and visual narrative

The dial design places the tourbillon firmly at centre stage. The rotating cage is supported by a sculpted figure of the ancient Greek god Chronos, rendered with pronounced muscular relief, flowing hair and a full beard. The figure measures 37 mm in diameter and is both polished and patinated to enhance depth and contrast.

Chronos is set against an aventurine backdrop, while the hour and minute hands are mounted at chest level and executed in a Dauphine style. Water resistance is rated at 30 metres, underlining that the watch is conceived primarily as a high complication showcase rather than an everyday sports timepiece.

Case layout and wearing experience

A notable design feature is the position of the winding crown, which is placed on the left side of the case. This configuration shifts the tourbillon further to the right, improving its visibility from typical wearing angles. In practice, however, the architectural scale and thickness of the case make discretion unlikely, with the watch clearly intended to command attention on the wrist.

Movement and technical construction

Achieving a four second tourbillon rotation required a purpose built mechanical solution. The manually wound calibre JCAM60 was developed from the ground up specifically for this model. It consists of 283 components and operates at a frequency of 3 Hz, offering a power reserve of 60 hours.

Energy is supplied by four coupled mainspring barrels, allowing the tourbillon to rotate approximately fifteen times faster than in a conventional construction. The tourbillon cage itself is manufactured from titanium and weighs just 0.27 grams, reducing inertia and energy consumption.

The balance features variable inertia with eight regulating weights and is fitted with a Breguet overcoil. A constant force mechanism is integrated into the escapement system, delivering energy to the balance in controlled impulses, working at the same frequency as the balance itself. This solution plays a key role in maintaining stability at such extreme rotational speeds.

Limited production and positioning

The caseback is engraved with a portrait of Jacob Arabo and his signature, emphasising the personal nature of the project. Production is limited to 60 individually numbered pieces, reflecting the anniversary that inspired the watch.

The God of Time is worn on a classic alligator leather strap fitted with a folding clasp in rose gold. The estimated price is approximately 320,000 US dollars, placing the model firmly within the realm of contemporary haute horlogerie, where mechanical audacity and visual theatre stand alongside traditional craftsmanship.
