Girard-Perregaux Reimagines the Bridges Cosmos as a Unique Piece

When Girard-Perregaux unveiled the Bridges Cosmos in 2019, it stood apart as one of the most poetic interpretations of astronomical time in contemporary watchmaking. A central tourbillon was accompanied by two rotating globes, transforming civil and sidereal time into a striking three dimensional mechanical tableau.

In 2025, the manufacture revisited this concept not as a serial update, but as a unique piece. The mechanics remain unchanged, while the visual language has been refined through new materials, surface treatments and an increased sense of depth.

Architecture and case construction

The unique Bridges Cosmos is housed in a titanium case measuring 47 mm in diameter and 22.2 mm in height. These proportions clearly position the watch closer to a horological sculpture than to a conventional wristwatch. Sapphire crystals on both sides provide uninterrupted views of the movement and its spatial architecture.

The case deliberately omits a traditional crown. Winding, time setting and functional adjustments are operated via rotating controls integrated into the caseback. Each control is identified by a luminescent pictogram that indicates its function. Water resistance is rated at 30 metres, reinforcing the conceptual nature of the piece.

Dial construction and celestial materials

The dial preserves the overall layout of the original Bridges Cosmos while introducing a more sophisticated layered construction. The base is crafted from Tahitian mother of pearl, offering subtle iridescence, while a plate of deep blue aventurine sits above it, evoking a star filled night sky.

At six o’clock, the tourbillon is anchored beneath a sandblasted titanium bridge. Its restrained finish allows the regulating organ to remain visually prominent without dominating the composition.

Dual globes and astronomical time

The defining elements of the Bridges Cosmos remain the two rotating globes positioned at nine and three o’clock.

The globe at nine o’clock, decorated with zodiacal symbols, completes one full rotation every 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds. This corresponds to a sidereal day and serves as an indication of sidereal time. Opposite it, the globe at three o’clock rotates once every 24 hours and functions as a day and night indicator. Daytime hours are visible from the dial side, while evening and night phases are read from the caseback.

Both globes are made from titanium, laser engraved to create texture and coated with a blue luminescent material to ensure legibility in low light.

Time display and legibility

Conventional time is displayed on a small sub dial at twelve o’clock. Applied hour markers in white gold are paired with Dauphine style hands, all treated with blue Super-LumiNova. This restrained display provides a clear point of reference amid the more expressive astronomical indications.

Movement and finishing

Powering the watch is the manually wound calibre GP09320, previously used in the original Bridges Cosmos and in other Girard-Perregaux creations such as the Infinity. The movement comprises more than 360 components, including 52 jewels, operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of approximately 57 to 60 hours, depending on configuration.

Finishing adheres to the standards of high horology. Titanium bridges are sandblasted and hand bevelled, the mainplate features circular graining, and the screws are mirror polished. These details are visible from both sides, reinforcing the movement’s sculptural presence.

Strap and exclusivity

The watch is paired with a hand stitched calfskin strap with nubuck finishing, secured by a triple folding titanium clasp. As a unique piece, its singular status is confirmed by a dedicated engraving. Pricing is available on request.

A mechanical meditation on the cosmos

Rather than expanding the Bridges Cosmos into a broader collection, Girard-Perregaux has chosen to revisit it as a singular statement. By preserving the original mechanics and refining the aesthetic language, the manufacture underscores the watch’s role as an exploration of time, astronomy and spatial movement.

In this unique execution, the Bridges Cosmos does not replace the 2019 model. Instead, it distils the same idea into a more mature and materially nuanced expression, reaffirming Girard-Perregaux’s ability to blend technical complexity with poetic restraint.
