The second most valuable watch has sold at auction this weekend all in the spirit of raising money for charity. Sold for a hefty £4.35 million, the Rolex Daytona has broken records.
We posted about the Rolex Daytona a couple of weeks which was going on auction in Rolex for charity by John Goldberger. Also known as 'The Unicorn', the watch was created by Pucci Papaleo who goes by the name 'Mr. Daytona', and is the only known white gold vintage Rolex Daytona ever produced.
On May 12th of this year, the watch sold for a colossal 5.9 million swiss franc (approx. £4.35 million) via , quite far short of the Rolex Daytona previously owned by Paul Newman which sold for $17.8m at auction in October 2017. The Unicorn wasn't the only watch sold in the auction held by
Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo, as five Rolex Daytonas were offered including '
ROLEX, Ref. 6240 – THE NEANDERTHAL.' which sold for
3,012,500 CHF & the '
ROLEX, Ref. 6263 – THE ARABIAN KNIGHT' which was sold for
1,932,500 CHF.
ROLEX, Ref. 6240 – THE NEANDERTHAL
The money made from John Goldberger through the auction is to be handed over to a children's charity, Children Action, and is considered the most amount raised for a charity from the sale of a single watch. What are your thoughts on the watch?
