Phillips to Auction 10 Exceptional Pocket Watches in Hong Kong and New York

When Phillips announced the offering of 10 incredible pocket watches, collectors and enthusiasts alike took notice. These rare timepieces, part of a single private collection, are set to go under the hammer at upcoming auctions in Hong Kong and New York.

With the total estimate for the 10 watches reaching a significant $1.8 million, it's clear that pocket watches may still be in fashion.

Here's some worthy mentions:

Patek Philippe Ref. 767 Grand Complication Pocket Watch Estimated at a staggering $410,000-$821,000, this possibly unique Patek Philippe ref. 767 features a double-split chronograph, perpetual calendar, and minute repeater. It’s the only known double split-second version. Formerly part of the collection of Seth G. Atwood, founder of The Time Museum, this watch has historical significance. Compare it with another Patek Philippe grand complication from 1883 in the same auction.

L. Leroy & Cie Perpetual Calendar Minute Repeating Chronograph This exquisite pocket watch boasts a quintessential engine-turned dial, reminiscent of Leroy watches from the 1930s. Estimate: $20,500-$41,000.

Charles Frodsham Tourbillon with Split-Second Chronograph and Minute Repeater Only 12 Frodsham tourbillons have ever come to market. This one offers exceptional value at $61,500-$123,000. Another Charles Frodsham Clock Watch is estimated at $200,000-$400,000 in the New York auction.

Patek Philippe Observatory-Winning Pocket Watch Chronometer Circa 1910, this “Extra” quality 18’‘’ nickel-plated movement watch features Côtes de Genève decoration. Estimate: $24,000-$48,000 in the Hong Kong auction.

These pocket watches, though anachronistic in today’s world, continue to captivate collectors with their craftsmanship, history, and technical prowess. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or simply appreciate horological excellence, these auctions offer a glimpse into a bygone era of watchmaking.

The PHILLIPS Hong Kong Watch Auction: XVIII will take place on May 24 and 25, 2024, at their West Kowloon headquarters. The New York auction will also feature remarkable timepieces, including the Charles Frodsham Clock Watch and other exquisite pocket watches.
