GPHG 2025: Submissions Open for the Landmark 25th Edition
The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), one of the most respected institutions in the world of fine watchmaking, has begun accepting submissions for its 25th edition. Often described as the watchmaking world’s equivalent of the Oscars, the GPHG continues to highlight technical innovation, artisanal craftsmanship and creative excellence across the global industry. Entries are open until 20 June 2025 and must be submitted through the official digital platform.
Role of the GPHG Academy
Now comprising 1,050 members worldwide, the GPHG Academy represents a broad spectrum of watch industry professionals, from brand executives and designers to journalists, retailers and collectors. Each member has the right to propose watches for consideration, and brands may submit models that have been suggested by the Academy or enter others at their discretion. Every timepiece must have been commercialised after May 2024 and before the end of October 2025.
Fifteen Prize Categories Reflecting the Industry’s Diversity
This year’s awards will be presented across 15 categories, recognising a wide range of horological achievements. These include classic and complicated timepieces for both men and women, along with categories for sports watches, chronometry, artistic crafts and jewellery watches.
Among the notable features of this edition is the continued inclusion of the Eco-Innovation Prize and the Time-Only Watch Prize, both of which debuted in 2024. The Eco-Innovation Prize rewards efforts toward sustainability in watch design and production, while the Time-Only category honours simplicity and elegance in pure timekeeping. The “Mechanical Clocks” category makes a return in 2025, acknowledging the enduring relevance of non-wristwatch mechanical timepieces.
Watches featuring calendar complications will now be judged within the “Men’s Complication Watch” category, reflecting a refined classification approach.
Selection Process and International Exhibition
The first round of voting, conducted digitally by Academy members, will determine the 90 “pre-selected” watches, which will be revealed on 28 August. These timepieces will then form the GPHG’s travelling exhibition, scheduled to tour several international destinations, allowing both industry professionals and the public to experience the year’s standout entries in person.
Final Judging and Ceremony in Geneva
The final round of voting will involve a combination of electronic ballots cast by the Academy and deliberations by a jury of 30 members, selected from the Academy for their expertise and independence. The jury will meet in Geneva to evaluate all pre-selected watches in person during a confidential session held a few days before the ceremony. The panel will once again be chaired by British historian and watch specialist Nick Foulkes.
Award Ceremony at Bâtiment des Forces Motrices
The 25th GPHG Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, 13 November 2025, and will take place at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices, a historic venue in central Geneva. The evening will honour exceptional timepieces and their creators, drawing a global audience of industry figures, collectors and enthusiasts. As in previous years, the event will be broadcast live and the award-winning watches will later be displayed at the Musée Rath as part of the GPHG’s permanent collection.
