Sellita Introduces the SW200-2 Power+ Family

On 2 February 2026, Sellita unveiled SW200-2 Power+, an updated version of its most widely used automatic calibre. The new movement offers an extended power reserve of up to 65 hours and will gradually replace the existing SW200-1, although both versions are currently being produced in parallel.

A Modern Alternative to ETA 2824-2

Since its introduction in the early 2000s, the SW200 has established itself as Sellita’s flagship movement and a credible alternative to the ETA 2824-2. Its rise accelerated from 2003 onwards, when ETA began restricting deliveries of movements to brands outside the Swatch Group.

Over time, the SW200 became one of the most broadly adopted calibres in Swiss watchmaking, valued for its reliability, serviceability and consistent performance. Its main limitation, however, has been a relatively modest power reserve.

Addressing the Power Reserve Gap

In recent years, competing manufacturers have introduced movements with significantly extended autonomy. ETA’s Powermatic 80, for example, offers an 80 hour reserve, while La Joux-Perret’s G100 series delivers around 60 hours. Brands positioned higher in the market have also considered alternatives such as Kenissi, whose movements combine strong autonomy with robust construction.

Against this backdrop, the SW200-2 Power+ represents Sellita’s response, increasing the power reserve to approximately 65 hours while retaining the architecture and dimensions that have made the SW200 a practical choice for numerous brands.

Technical Developments

The SW200-2 Power+ incorporates several important refinements:

  • A redesigned gear train with optimised tooth geometry. The wheels feature a distinct colour finish compared with the SW200-1, allowing straightforward identification during servicing.

  • A new mainspring barrel fitted with a spring offering additional coils, enabling greater energy storage and extended running time.

  • An improved automatic winding system.

  • A new regulating organ with inertia reduced from 16 to 8 mg·cm². Despite the lower inertia, stability is maintained.

  • A revised fine adjustment system to enhance regulation precision.

  • Incabloc shock protection.

  • Reworked brass components, including bridges and the mainplate, redesigned to improve overall rigidity.

Unlike the Powermatic 80, which achieves its extended reserve in part by lowering the frequency to 21,600 vibrations per hour, the SW200-2 Power+ maintains a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz. This allows the movement to preserve the familiar balance between rate stability and robustness associated with the original SW200 platform.

With these updates, Sellita aims to ensure that its most widely deployed calibre remains competitive in a market increasingly defined by longer power reserves and incremental technical refinement.
