Each watch represents a different season through its precious-metal case, natural stone dial and gemstone details.
Presented as Rolex's first charity auction, The event raised funds for the Roger Federer Foundation and Re:wild, the conservation organisation co-founded by Leonardo DiCaprio. Four Unique Rolex Daytona Watches Inspired by the Seasons
The Four Seasons collection comprises four individual interpretations of the Cosmograph Daytona, each distinguished by a different combination of precious metals and decorative stones. The watches retain the recognisable architecture of Rolex's chronograph while introducing materials and colour combinations created specifically for the auction.
The collection explores four seasonal themes, ranging from the cool blue tones of Winter to the warmer colours of Autumn and Summer. Each watch was offered as a unique piece, making the auction an opportunity to acquire a Daytona design unavailable through the manufacturer's regular collections.
The auction results were:
-
Winter: Platinum case, blue opal dial and lapis lazuli chronograph counters. Sold for $13.2 million.
-
Autumn: Yellow-gold case, mookaite jasper dial and chrysoprase chronograph counters. Sold for $13.5 million.
-
Spring: White-gold case, chrysoprase dial and lepidolite chronograph counters. Sold for $9 million.
-
Summer: Everose gold case, turquoise dial and ruby chronograph counters. Sold for $13.65 million.
Summer achieved the highest price at approximately $13.65 million, followed by Autumn and Winter. Spring recorded the lowest result at $9 million. Together, the four watches generated approximately $49.4 million, equivalent to around £37.3 million at the time of the auction.
Natural Stone Dials and Rolex Calibre 4131
The defining feature of Four Seasons is its use of natural ornamental stones and gemstones within the familiar design of the Cosmograph Daytona. Rather than relying on conventional lacquered or metallic dials, Rolex selected materials with distinctive colours and textures to represent the changing seasons.
Blue opal and lapis lazuli give Winter its cool appearance, while Autumn combines the earthy tones of mookaite jasper with contrasting green chrysoprase. Spring uses chrysoprase and lepidolite, creating a different interpretation of the seasonal theme. Summer introduces a more vivid combination of turquoise and rubies against an Everose gold case.
Despite their decorative differences, the watches retain the mechanical foundation of the modern Cosmograph Daytona. Each is powered by the Rolex Calibre 4131, a self-winding chronograph movement introduced in 2023. The movement incorporates a column-wheel chronograph mechanism and a vertical clutch, with a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.
The Calibre 4131 also features Rolex's Chronergy escapement, designed to improve energy efficiency. Its architecture supports the central chronograph seconds hand, 30-minute counter and 12-hour counter that define the Daytona's timing functions.
The combination of established chronograph engineering and individually selected decorative materials distinguishes Four Seasons from standard production models. Natural stone dials also introduce variations in colour and pattern, contributing to the individual appearance of each watch.
Rolex Perpetual Planet Initiative and Charity Beneficiaries
The London auction was organised within Rolex's Perpetual Planet initiative, which supports projects associated with environmental protection, exploration and the preservation of natural ecosystems. The event also brought together two charitable organisations connected with prominent figures associated with the watchmaker.
The Roger Federer Foundation focuses on improving educational opportunities for children, particularly through early learning initiatives. Re:wild, co-founded by Leonardo DiCaprio, works to protect biodiversity, restore ecosystems and support conservation projects around the world.
Proceeds from the Four Seasons auction were designated for these two organisations, making the sale part of Rolex's wider philanthropic activities.
The auction followed another major commitment associated with the company's support for exploration and education. Rolex also announced a $100 million contribution to the National Geographic Museum in Washington, which reopened following redevelopment in June 2026. This contribution was separate from the proceeds raised through the Daytona auction.
A $49.4 Million Result for Four Unique Rolex Chronographs
The Four Seasons auction demonstrated the substantial collector interest surrounding unique Rolex creations. All four watches achieved multimillion-dollar results, with Summer recording the highest individual sale at approximately $13.65 million.
The event was notable not only for the total amount raised but also for its format. Rather than offering historic watches from private collections, the auction presented four specially created contemporary Daytona models, each associated with a seasonal theme and a charitable purpose.
Through Four Seasons, Rolex combined the established technical architecture of the Cosmograph Daytona with unusual decorative materials and a fundraising initiative. The $49.4 million result highlights the significance of the collection as both a watchmaking project and a contribution to educational and environmental causes.
