Longines Master Chronograph Moonphase

A refined expression of classic watchmaking with traditional complications in an 18 carat pink gold case

Longines has expanded its Master collection with a new chronograph featuring multiple calendar indications and a moon phase display, presented in a luxurious pink gold case. The release arrives in a year of significance for the line and reinforces the collection’s role as one of the pillars of contemporary Longines watchmaking.

A collection shaped by two decades of quiet success

The Master collection was introduced in 2005 and, although rarely positioned as a headline series within the brand’s portfolio, it has become one of Longines’s best selling families. Its formula is rooted in classical design and traditional complications presented with the brand’s characteristic restraint. While the popular Heritage line revisits specific historical references, the Master range reflects the broader traditions of Swiss watchmaking and focuses on timeless elegance rather than direct vintage reinterpretation.

With the twentieth anniversary of the collection approaching, the introduction of a new high specification chronograph is a fitting tribute to the series and its enduring appeal.

Pink gold case with generous proportions

The new model is crafted in polished 18 carat pink gold. The case has a diameter of 42 millimetres and a lug to lug length of nearly 50 millimetres, giving the watch a sizeable presence on the wrist. The thickness is 14.40 millimetres, which is substantial but commensurate with a chronograph that integrates a full calendar and moon phase. Sapphire crystals are fitted to both front and back, and water resistance is rated at 30 metres.

A textured dial and traditional display layout

The dial presents a silver white surface decorated with a barleycorn guilloché pattern. Although the abundance of indications reduces visual simplicity, the complexity contributes to the character of the watch. The central hands show the hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, accompanied by a centrally mounted date hand distinguished by a crescent shaped tip. All hands are made of blued steel, adding a subtle vintage accent.

The displays are arranged in a balanced and familiar configuration. The twelve o’clock position houses a 30 minute chronograph counter along with two calendar apertures for the day of the week and the month. At nine o’clock is a small seconds subdial combined with a 24 hour indicator, serving as a day night display. The six o’clock subdial integrates a 12 hour chronograph counter with a moon phase indication.

The L687.5 calibre: a revised interpretation of an established foundation

Powering the watch is the L687.5 calibre, developed by ETA exclusively for Longines. The movement is based on the Valjoux 7750 but has been significantly re engineered. It features a column wheel mechanism in place of the standard cam system and is fitted with a free sprung balance and a silicon balance spring. The calibre offers a power reserve of 66 hours.

Finishing includes a blued column wheel, perlage on key surfaces and a gold coloured rotor decorated with a pattern reminiscent of Geneva stripes.

This latest addition reinforces the position of the Master collection as a showcase for classical watchmaking at Longines, combining traditional complications with a design language that continues to resonate with collectors seeking elegance and mechanical depth.
