Panerai expands its celebrated bronze offerings with a new reference that is likely to attract considerable interest among followers of the brand. The Luminor Marina Bronzo PAM01678 marks the first time the Luminor Marina design has been presented in bronze without a date display, a configuration many collectors have long hoped to see.
Bronze models have developed an almost cult status within the Panerai community. The first, the Submersible PAM00382 of 2011, remains one of the most sought after pieces in the brand’s modern history and continues to trade well above its original retail price. The arrival of a non date Luminor Marina in this material therefore represents a notable moment in the evolution of the line.

Bronze Architecture and a Gradient Dial
The new model is housed in a 44 millimetre case with a thickness of 13.4 millimetres. The warm bronze alloy contrasts attractively with a matte dark blue gradient dial. The gradient transitions from a lighter centre to darker edges, preserving the visual balance characteristic of Panerai’s sandwich construction. The lower dial plate is coated with beige Super LumiNova, which harmonises with the colour of the case and complements the rhodium plated hands. The restrained use of beige printed text maintains a clean aesthetic.
The bronze surfaces, including the bezel and the signature crown protection device, are satin finished. This approach is designed to encourage even patination across the case over time. As the metal gradually darkens, the watch may appear visually smaller, which could appeal to those who find the 44 millimetre footprint substantial.

The P.980 Automatic Calibre
Powering the PAM01678 is the in house automatic calibre P.980. The movement is visible through a titanium screw down caseback fitted with a sapphire crystal insert. Although Panerai movements have not always been celebrated for decorative finishing, the P.980 offers an appealing presentation. The skeletonised rotor, perlage on the plates and neatly executed anglage contribute to a level of refinement that enhances the overall impression of the watch.
