Bell & Ross BR-03 Space Mission: A New Limited-Edition Watch Inspired by Space Exploration
Bell & Ross has introduced the BR-03 Space Mission, a limited-edition automatic watch that replaces conventional hands with a miniature spacecraft and a rotating celestial display. The new model transforms the familiar square BR-03 case into a moving representation of space, with the Moon indicating the hours and a futuristic spaceplane tracking the minutes.
Limited to 999 pieces and priced at €4,990, the BR-03 Space Mission builds on the concept introduced with the BR-03 Astro in 2025. Its unusual display combines astronomical imagery with traditional mechanical watchmaking, offering a different approach to reading the time without introducing additional complications.

A Space-Inspired Dial Without Traditional Watch Hands
The defining feature of the Bell & Ross BR-03 Space Mission is its unconventional time display. Rather than relying on standard hour and minute hands, the watch uses moving images of celestial objects and a spacecraft to indicate the time.
A transparent rotating disc carries representations of the Earth and Moon. The Moon acts as the hour indicator, while a small spaceplane moves around the dial to display the minutes. The arrangement creates the impression of a spacecraft travelling through space, with the positions of the different elements constantly changing.
The spaceplane's design takes inspiration from the Vortex concept developed by Dassault Aviation, a French aerospace manufacturer. Its futuristic appearance complements the astronomical theme while maintaining a clear functional role within the display.
The dial features a black aventurine glass plate, whose shimmering inclusions create the appearance of a star-filled sky. A small red dot represents Mars, adding another celestial reference to the composition.
Despite its unusual appearance, the display follows the familiar principles of a conventional two-hand watch:
-
Hours: The Moon serves as the hour indicator, moving around the dial over a 12-hour cycle.
-
Minutes: The spaceplane travels around the dial, completing one revolution every 60 minutes.
-
Earth: The image of the planet forms part of the celestial composition, reinforcing the impression of a miniature astronomical scene.
-
Mars: A small red element provides an additional visual detail within the space-inspired design.
The result is a dial that changes throughout the day while retaining a straightforward method of reading the hours and minutes.
Black Ceramic Case and the Familiar BR-03 Design
Although the dial represents a departure from conventional watchmaking, the case remains closely connected to the established BR-03 collection.
The watch features the brand's recognisable square case, measuring 41 × 41 mm with a thickness of 10.6 mm. Its proportions follow the instrument-inspired design language that has become closely associated with Bell & Ross.
The case is manufactured from black ceramic with a micro-blasted finish. This surface treatment produces a matt appearance that complements the dark aventurine dial and allows the colourful celestial elements to stand out.
Ceramic also offers practical advantages, particularly its resistance to surface scratches. However, like other ceramic watch cases, it can be vulnerable to damage from sharp impacts.
An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the case provides water resistance to 100 metres. This makes the watch suitable for everyday wear and normal exposure to water, although its unusual display is clearly the main attraction.
The contrast between the restrained black case and the animated dial is central to the design. Bell & Ross retains the functional appearance of its aviation-inspired watches while introducing a more imaginative interpretation of the instrument-panel concept.
Automatic BR-CAL.325 Movement With a 54-Hour Power Reserve
Inside the BR-03 Space Mission is the automatic BR-CAL.325 calibre, based on the Sellita SW330 movement and adapted to power the unconventional hour and minute indications.
The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, equivalent to 4 Hz, and provides a power reserve of approximately 54 hours when fully wound.
Its automatic winding system uses the movement of the wearer's wrist to maintain the mainspring's energy reserve during normal use. The watch can therefore continue operating for more than two days after being removed from the wrist, provided it has been sufficiently wound.
The BR-CAL.325 performs the familiar functions of displaying hours and minutes, but the indications are presented through moving decorative elements rather than conventional hands.
The transparent disc and spaceplane translate the movement's mechanical output into an animated scene. This approach allows the watch to offer an unusual visual experience without requiring the wearer to interpret an entirely new timekeeping system.
Compared with the earlier BR-03 Astro, the Space Mission continues Bell & Ross's exploration of alternative displays inspired by astronomy and space travel. Both models demonstrate how traditional mechanical movements can be combined with unconventional dial architecture.
Straps, Limited Edition and Availability
The BR-03 Space Mission is supplied with two black straps, allowing owners to choose between different materials while retaining the watch's monochromatic appearance.
The first is made from black rubber, a practical option for regular wear. The second uses a durable black synthetic fabric that complements the model's aviation-inspired styling.
Both straps use a steel pin buckle with a micro-blasted matt black PVD finish. The matching hardware maintains the consistent dark appearance of the case and straps.

A Different Interpretation of Mechanical Timekeeping
The Bell & Ross BR-03 Space Mission illustrates how a familiar automatic watch can acquire an entirely different character through an imaginative display.
Its moving Moon and spaceplane, together with the representation of Earth, turn the passage of time into a miniature animated scene, while the underlying mechanical functions remain straightforward. The black aventurine glass dial and ceramic case provide a distinctive setting without departing from the established BR-03 design.
With a production run of 999 pieces, the model is aimed particularly at collectors interested in unconventional displays, aviation-inspired design and space exploration.
Rather than introducing a complex astronomical complication, Bell & Ross has focused on presenting the ordinary passage of hours and minutes in an unexpected way. This combination of accessible mechanics and distinctive visual storytelling makes the BR-03 Space Mission an unusual addition to the brand's 2026 collection.
